Welcome to Enjoy Russian School blog. In these posts, we show you people studying with us. Actually, they tell about themselves. Our today's guest is Eiman, a Multimedia Designer and Videographer from Sudan.

In my language, it means 'my sister', while in Russian it is just a very emotional word

Why do I learn this language? Well, because I was born in Russia and due to circumstances, I wasn’t able to learn the language and now I am able to thanks to the School. Of course, I associate it with my birthplace. I am connected with it not only from my childhood, it is a part of my life and who I am.

I have been to Russia multiple times. Using the language in real life might be so funny! For example, the expression 'Ух ты!' means something completely different from what I got used to, in my language it is 'my sister' so it sounds weird when I use it.

Yes, I do study other languages. Arabic, English, and Turkish. As for the most efficient and pleasant ways of learning, I prefer:
  • listening to music
  • watching series, shows, or films
  • conversing with natives
  • reading signs in the streets.

Each language has something irritating or very difficult as well as something great and cute. For instance, I am struggling with the stress - ударения - and applying the grammar accurately but I will get there with practice. It’s a beautiful language with a very rich history and culture. I've got 3 favorite phrases: серьёзно, which is 'seriously', the second one is не может быть meaning 'it can't be so and я в шоке, the equivalent for 'I am in shock'.

Russians and Sudanese are different but have something in common. We both know how to have fun, but Russians like their tea black while in my country we like our tea with milk. And also I was shocked to find out that in Russia, many people swim in ice water in the winter!

My biggest dream is to become a film director. Learning Russian can definitely be beneficial in my career as I can use it in my future films and even do a film that involves the culture and language. So I should study hard to speak like a native!
