Russian is a beautiful language to learn and is spoken by millions of people. Here are just a few of the main reasons why foreigners all around the world choose to study Russian as a second language:
- Traveling. If you’re an experienced tourist, you have obviously heard of the Lake Baikal or the Trans-Siberian Railway and might want to see them someday. In small towns, unlike Moscow or St. Petersburg people don’t understand English, that’s why you need at least some basic knowledge of survival language for tourists.
- Classic literature, music, or ballet. You don’t need the language to watch «Swan Lake» by Tchaikovsky or listen to Rachmaninoff’s compositions, but you might want to know more about this rich culture and read poems of Pushkin or novels of Dostoevsky in the original.
- Studying in Russia for international students: education and staying in Russia is much more affordable than in Europe or the USA, many universities offer scholarships, but all lectures and exams are in Russian, so you can’t do without them.
- Business. If you want to work for or to start a business with a Russian company, it’s better to be prepared for the negotiations, conferences, and reports in the director’s mother tongue.
Learning Russian for English speakers is not so difficult. From the very first lesson, you’ll find out that many letters and sounds are exactly the same or very similar to the English ones. We use many international words, such as café, manager or computer – only write them in Cyrillic which is very simple consisting of just 33 letters.
